Router Firmware is preinstalled and embedded software which controls administrative features, routing protocols as well as security functions. The firmware is stored on Read-Only Memory (ROM) chip of router.

If you visit 192.168.0.1 web interface, you might see a message at the top of the dashboard stating that new firmware is available. Click on that message to check if new firmware is available and to update your router. Here’s how to update Router’s Firmware using the admin web user interface:
- Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router’s network.
- Access the default web address via an internet browser.
- The default login window displays.
- Enter your admin username and password.

- The router searches for new firmware.
- If a new firmware is available, click or tap Yes.

Manually Update Your Router’s Firmware
In addition to the default router admin interface, you can also upgrade your router’s firmware manually from the download center. Implement the below-given steps for router update:

- Download the newest firmware on your router by navigating to the Download Center.
- Enter your router’s model number and look for the firmware.
- Now, take an Ethernet cable and connect your PC to the router.
- Head over to the default router admin interface.
- Click on the Firmware Update option and then the Upload button.

Update Your Router’s Firmware Using Genie Application
Follow the instructions below for genie firmware update on your WiFi router:
- Launch the Genie app on your device.
- Afterward, go to the Router Settings.
- Once prompted, fill in the username and password.
- Navigate to the Router Update section.
- Now, click on the Next button to see whether a new firmware update is available or not.
- Once done, click on the Yes button to start the firmware update process.

Nowadays, the most common issue after updating the router’s firmware is no internet access. No matter whether you try rebooting the router and modem around a dozen times, resetting the router or replacing the Ethernet cable, you still get no internet access error.
